WINGS2009 - Core Objectives

• To provide an exciting and complete International experience of one weeks duration for the 10+ age group of Scouts and Guides

• To provide an opening to the celebrations of the Centenary of GirlGuiding in 2010 and to build on the achievements of the celebration of the Centenary of Scouting in 2007

• To provide a programme that recognises the structure of sections within the Guide and Scout movements and offers an appropriate balance of fun, adventure and achievement for all the young people taking part

• To provide a programme that allows leaders and young people to work together and outside of their own units

• To make activities, training opportunities and a skill building programme available to adult leaders

• To make WINGS the culmination of a programme of activities offered to the young people, not necessarily just in Berkshire, over the preceding year

• To provide a vehicle for promoting Scouting and Guiding in Berkshire both before and during the camp

• To make Scouting and Guiding highly visible within the county during the camp

• To use WINGS as part of a managed recruitment campaign for Scouting and Guiding

• To involve the Berkshire business community, media and Local/National Government both by approaching them for financial support and/or using WINGS as a showcase for Scouting and Guiding

• To endeavour to achieve a high proportion and variety of overseas units attending the event

• To encourage overseas Scout and Guide expeditions to offer invitations during the preceding two years

• To cost the event at a realistic price for participants, leaders and staff and at a price which enables it to be financially self sufficient

• To build on the success of the three previous WINGS and make maximum use of experience and appropriate personnel involved in WINGS 93, 98 and 2003

• To provide opportunities for adult volunteers to gain or expand experience in delivering WINGS2009 so that they can play a part in delivering a future WINGS and/or other Guiding and Scouting activities

• To make maximum use of the Sub-Camps as part of the delivery of the complete WINGS experience

• To ensure that the teams delivering WINGS reflect, as far as possible, the diversity of those taking part in the WINGS Experience

• To ensure the Global Explorer Programme is used to its maximum potential to enhance the quality of the WINGS Experience

• To provide a catalyst for new or further International activity at Unit level and beyond.
