The theme for WINGS2009 is 'Making a Difference'
There will be a variety of opportunities for you, your Unit and the whole of WINGS2009 to make a difference at WINGS2009, in the local Berkshire community, around the world and back home in your village, town or city and some of these are listed below.
Helping Others
WINGS2009 will be making a difference by challenging everyone who attends WINGS2009 to raise at least £2 per person to help others less fortunate than those attending WINGS2009.
WINGS2009
are pleased to announce a partnership with UK based charity, the
Children's Society.
The Children's Society is a leading national charity, driven by the belief that every child deserves a good childhood. The Children's Society provides help and understanding for those forgotten children who are unable to find the support they need anywhere else.
The international charity will be announced later in the year.
In 2003, WINGS2003 raised over £4000 for the Feed the Children Charity.
Help WINGS2009 to support CRISIS and put a sock in homelessness!!!
Did you know one of the
biggest problems for homeless people is their feet?!?!?!?
WINGS 2009 is supporting the work of Crisis and hoping to make a difference to the lives of those young people who find themselves homeless. To do this we will be collecting pairs of new black socks. Help us to make the largest single donation of socks during GirlguidingUK's changing the world year and bring a pair with you.
Why not have a feet evening and find out some interesting feet facts or look at what it's like to be homeless.....
Working with Others
WINGS2009 will be making a difference by bringing together young people and adult volunteers from all parts of the world to work together providing a great opportunity to learn about other cultures and other perspectives.
Supporting Adult Volunteers
WINGS2009 will be making a difference by supporting Adult Volunteer Leaders at WINGS2009 through opportunities for taking training modules, work shops and sharing programme ideas.
Supporting the Programmes of Guiding and Scouting
WINGS2009 will be making a difference by providing a "join in" programme with exciting activity ideas in the months leading up to WINGS. It is called the "Take-Off Programme" and will be available to everyone, not just the Units coming to WINGS
Showcase for Guiding and Scouting
WINGS2009 will be making a difference by using WINGS2009 to show community leaders, educationalists and councillors what Girlguiding and Scouting offer thousands of young people across Berkshire and beyond.
